Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial is an antineoplastic drug used to treat certain types of cancers, such as lymphoma, sarcoma, multiple myeloma, and Wilms tumor. It belongs to a group of drugs known as alkylating agents, which stop cells from dividing by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis. It can be given orally, intravenously, or intramuscularly.

Uses

Mechanism of Action

Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial works by stopping cells from dividing by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis. As a result, new cells are not produced and cancer cells gradually die off. It also affects other cells, such as healthy blood cells and platelets, and can cause serious side effects.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

It may take several days or weeks for Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial to take effect. Your doctor will monitor your response to the drug and adjust the dose if necessary.

Absorption

Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is metabolized in the liver.

Route of Elimination

Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial is eliminated from the body mainly through the kidneys. It can also be eliminated through the feces and urine.

Dosage

Ifosfamide should be administrated intravenously at a dose of 1.2 g/m² per day for 5 consecutive days. Treatment is repeated every 3 weeks or after recovery from hematologic toxicity (Platelets ≥100,000/mL, WBC ≥4,000/mL). In order to prevent bladder toxicity, ifosfamide should be given with extensive hydration consisting of at least 2 liters of oral or intravenous fluid per day. A protector, such as Mesna (Mes-D), should also be used to prevent hemorrhagic cystitis. Ifosfamide should be administrated as a slow intravenous infusion lasting a minimum of 30 minutes. Although Ifosfamide has been administrated to a small number of patients with compromised hepatic and/.or renal function, studies to establish optimal dose schedules of Ifosfamide in such patients have not been conducted.

The recommended dosage of Holoxan IV Infusion 1 gm/vial depends on the type and stage of cancer, the patient’s age and weight, and other factors. The usual starting dose for adults is 2-3 g/m² of body surface area given daily for 5 days. Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your response to the treatment.

Administration
