Caprolycin Injection 2 gm/10 ml, also known as ε-aminocaproic acid, is an antifibrinolytic medication used to prevent or reduce excessive bleeding in a variety of conditions. Mechanism of Action

Caprolycin Injection 2 gm/10 ml works by blocking the breakdown of fibrin, a protein that is essential in the process of blood clotting. This reduces the amount of fibrin that is available to form a clot, thereby decreasing the amount of bleeding.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

The effects of aminocaproic acid usually occur within minutes, which is why it is recommended to be taken immediately before or after a procedure.

Absorption

Caprolycin Injection 2 gm/10 ml is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is well absorbed after oral administration.

Route of Elimination

Caprolycin Injection 2 gm/10 ml is largely eliminated through the kidneys in the form of its inactive metabolites. It is also minimally metabolized by the liver.

Dosage

Dosage of  Aminocaproic acid must be adjusted to individual cases according to the severity of the hemmohagic event. It must however born in mind that Aminocaproic acid cleared rapidly by renal rough, so that administration must be repeated every 4-6 hours. The average dose is 8-16 gm a day.i.e. 1 ampule of Aminocaproic acid according to the case, every 6 hours.

Aminocaproic acid is equally effective by mouth and intarvenous injection. In cases of particular severity, or when it is sought to obtain a high blood concentration quickly it is advisable to start treatment by intravenous rough, with slow injection of two Aminocaproic acid ampules with an interval of 30-60 minutes between them, continuing with divided doses until a dosage of 20-25 grams in the 24 hour is reached.

In any case, administration of the drug must be continued until complete cessation of all symptoms. Aminocaproic acid could be intravenously administered, following suitable dilution in Physiological solution.

The recommended dosage of aminocaproic acid for adults is 3.5-17.5 g/day taken orally in two divided doses or as a single dose intravenously. The dose should be adjusted according to the diagnosis and the severity of bleeding. For children, the dose and duration of administration should be prescribed by a doctor.
