Let the length of the pole be L.

Initially part of the length of the pole in mud = 4/7 × L = 4L/7

When 1/3 of 4L/7 is pulled out of the mud then the length of the pole pulled out of the mud

= {(1/3) × (4L/7)} = 4L/21

Part of the length of the pole remaining in the mud = (4L/7) – (4L/21) = 8L/21

According to the question,

8L/21 = 8

L = 21 m
