Dadabhai Naoroji was elected to the British house of commons from the Finsbury Central Constituency in the elections of 1892 by a narrow margin of 3 votes by defeating Fredrick Thomas Penton. Being a subject of the British crown (Being a citizen of British India) he was allowed to take part in the election.
