Area of the rectangle without the road = 16×12 = 192 sq. m. Length with road on both side = 16 + 2×3 = 22 m. Width with road on both side = 12 + 2×3 = 18 m. Area of the rectangle including the road = 22×18 = 396 sq. m. Area of the road = 396 - 192 =  204 sq. m.
