Some film is higher quality than others, but nowadays, the choices are more limited. If you are new to film photography, try a cheaper film like Fujifilm's FujiColor. It is around 2 bucks in most places. It's decent quality, but since it's low cost, it isn't too much of an investment if your pictures don't work out well. Certain brands like Illford are always black and white, so keep that in mind.
