Travofix Plus Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, Mechanism of Action, How Long Does it Take to Work? Travofix Plus is a brand name. Its generic name is Travoprost + Timolol.

Introduction

Travofix Plus is a combination drug made up of two ophthalmic medications, Travoprost and Timolol. Travoprost is similar to prostaglandin and helps decrease pressure in the eyes. Timolol reduces the actions of certain chemicals that cause an increase in eye pressure. This combination medication is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Uses

Travofix Plus is primarily used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. This medication can help reduce the pressure inside the eyes, which is known to cause damage to the optic nerve and is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide.

Mechanism of Action

Travofix Plus works by decreasing the level of fluid pressure inside the eye. Travoprost functions as a prostaglandin analogue, increasing aqueous outflow from the eye and thereby reducing the pressure inside the eye. Timolol, a non-selective beta-blocker, has effects on both aqueous production and resorption, further reducing the pressure in the ocular chamber.

How Long Does It Take to Work

Travofix Plus typically begins to lower eye pressure within 30 minutes of administration. Sustained reductions in eye pressure can be seen after 1 to 2 hours and further sustained reductions may be seen up to 24 hours after administration. Maximum effect of the medication is usually seen after 4 to 6 weeks of treatment.

Absorption

Travofix Plus is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream after topical application. Systemic absorption is variable depending on individual patient characteristics. It is important to note that systemic absorption of Travoprost increases when used with other topical ophthalmic medications at the same time.

Route of Elimination

The primary route of elimination of travoprost and timolol is through the urine. Travoprost is metabolized in the liver and renal elimination is the primary route of elimination. Timolol is metabolized by the liver and is primarily eliminated through bile and feces.

Dosage

Travofix Plus is available as an eye drop solution containing 0.004% Travoprost and 0.5% Timolol. The total daily dose of Travofix Plus should not exceed one application in each eye.
