CC HCTZ is used to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It can be used as initial therapy or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure.Mechanism of Action
Candesartan cilexetil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) which blocks the action of angiotensin II, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that increases blood pressure.Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (a drug that increases urination) which helps the body to remove excess salt and fluid, and thereby lowers blood pressure.How Long Does It Take to Work?

The peak concentrations of CC and HCTZ are achieved 1.5 hours and 2 to 5 hours after dosing respectively.Route of Elimination
Candesartan is primarily eliminated in the urine with 27% as unchanged candesartan and 28% as the carboxylic acid metabolite. HCTZ is excreted mainly in the form of unchanged HCTZ and its metabolites.Dosage
The usual initial dose of CC HCTZ is one 8/12.5mg tablet taken once daily. The dosage may be increased to one 16/12.5mg or one 32/12.5mg tablet taken once daily as needed. The maximum recommended daily dose is one 32/12.5mg tablet taken once daily, or two 32/12.5mg tablets taken once daily.Administration
The CC HCTZ tablets should be taken once daily by mouth with or without food.Side Effects
Common side effects of CC HCTZ include headache, lightheadedness, dizziness, itching or rash, and nausea. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Toxicity
Overdose of CC HCTZ may cause electrolyte or water imbalance or heart failure. If overdose is suspected, contact a poison control center immediately.Precaution
This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. It is not recommended for use in newborns. This medication must be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take CC HCTZ for a longer period than prescribed.Interactions
